Screening spotlights young filmmakers

Friday night a film festival ofworks by young-in some cases,very young - filmmakers will come to a screen near you. The Filmmakers Film Series, a part of Hillsborough's Last Fridays event, this month will present the Student Media Arts Screening and Expo, at 7 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge at 142 W. King St. The evening will feature movies by children and teens involved in various media arts programs in the Triangle. A reception With the filmmakers will be held after the show, and information about local youth media opportunities will be available.
Among the works and programs on the schedule: "Finding the Balance," a 20- minute comedy about a teenaged girl struggling to find her way, by MovieMakers. Movie Makers is an organization dedicated to helping children create art through digital film. Kids aged 6-19 are the writers, actors, directors, cinematographers, and crew to create their very own digital movies. Over the years MovieMakers films have been accepted into over a dozen festivals, and last year .MovieMakers won the Best Short Filin in the Youth category at the Carrboro Film Festival.
