Movie MakersMaybe it was all the buzz over "The Matrix" sequel at the Cannes Film Festival but somehow the world premier of films by some young people in Chapel Hill escaped media attention. So their event wasn't quite as glitzy but it was a formal affair. Many of the stars and their family members and friends arrived in evening wear. The Chapel Hill premiere was the final scene of a how-to-make-movies course taught privately by former actress Melissa Lozoff. "They just really get into the acting and the whole filmmaking. And a lot of them want to go on and continue in a career." The results of her twelve week Movie Makers course in acting, writing, directing. lighting, sound, etc is shown on the giant screen at Chapel Hill Bible Church. The younger kids' film featured characters ranging from a mean queen to a singing cat burglar. The older kid's film combined the Salem Witch Trials with high school cliques. Movie Makers accepts kids aged 6-17. Several summer camps are being offered this year. Contact Melissa at (919) 960-8233 or http://www.movie-makers.net/ Last Updated: Nov 9, 2003 |
